OK, I made a decision:
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=15164586185 (Dolch ¥488)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10805167996 (Xerox Alps ¥488)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10281372718 (IBM ¥328)
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=10281582740 (IBM ¥328)
plus 2 Nikon 90th anniversary neck straps!

Total: (488+488+328*2)/8/0.54 == 378 Cherry MX preorder switches.

I'll drop the plate of white / clear switches from my order. Might dump the blues too. Perhaps for this:
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?scm=100 ... id=&pm_id=

But can anyone make sense of the individual switch price list here?
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=201 ... id=&pm_id=

Seems a complex matrix of options for stems and springs, too. I might grab some MX greens and a yellow, just to try it out.

To me it is like all you can see costs ¥5.

BTW, did I ever get those alternative blue MX-switches?

Your Dolch is just the keycaps, 7bit. Or that's how I read it.

Are you sure you need both those Model Fs? I'm yet to get my first.

Sorry, but no matter which language:
What is in the photo is for sale. I'm not interested in just the caps.

I don't need both but I waited quite some years to join in to this group buy, so you had all the chance to get all of the items in my list before me.

If we split, I take the one with the blue switch.
:-)

That's cool by me!

After the Space Unsaver incident, I have to ask: are they definitely buckling spring?

No, they are not, but I just like those old IBMs.

Curses! How do you tell? I've not found a good resource online for determining which switch is actually in these keyboards.

As far as I know, these are beam spring keyboards.

Oh, *slaps forehead* of course. I was primed to expect disappointment. Beam spring is fine by me. Very much so.

Ugh, when will I shake off this newbishness? Need more keyboards. It's the only way…

Which are beam spring keyboards? None listed were beam spring keyboards, unless is joke? :P

When in doubt, to Dorkvader!
lucky for you I know exactly what those are!

They are both keyboards for an IBM model C terminal. I recently got a model C3 keyboard in "data entry" layout (and therefore missing the extra PF keys on the block on the right) Both are model F (flip plate, or capacitive buckling spring)

If you notice the design is similar to the PC / XT keyboard, though there are some differences. DO not attempt to remove the spacebar without further instruction. note the location of modifiers near spacebar as well as the location of the right shift and enter key.

I can tell you exactly the model and model numbers for these keyboards when I get home and check my user manual (there is a slot in the back for the terminal user manual, luckily mine came with one)

These key boards likely have a solenoid in them that can be set to click on keypresses.

I don't know what a good price is, but I got mine for $35 shipped on the US eBay recently. They are not currently easily convertible to USB or PS2, though I think some kbdbabel code exists for them right now. The connector between the controller and the KB matrix PCB is the same as on the 122 and 104 (unsaver) models, so you could probably swap a 122 controller over to it to make it work.Note: not all keys send upcodes, so it can't detect if they are held down or not (and they are less useful. Almost all keys do have repeat action (according to the manual that came with mine) so this is a "not bad"candidate to convert the protocol)

Note we are currently working on a Teensy based capacitive controller matrix for model F's. There are currently a few working prototypes. I will be building a few soon.

Hope this helps!
He has my thanks again.

Wish we could get $35 shipped in Europe!

Nay, those are Fs, and cannot currently be easily converted.

Been trying to find time to look through this stuff for days but now I've found time I'm on my mobile -.-

Am I right in saying that the currency conversion is ¥100 = ~£10 ? o_O

Anywho here's what I'm interested in:

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=0.0 ... 9870113880 - Trackball KidTrac

^^
Does anyone know if I would be able to get an adapter for this to convert it to USB?

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=0.0 ... 9710806262 - Cherry Bare Boards

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=0.0 ... 3002435935 - WYSE Board

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=0.0 ... 7356982662 - IBM Model M

^^
I guess all the SSK's have been snapped up long ago but are there any normal Model M's left?

Sorry there's so many questions but it's hard to research on my phone and I doubt I'll have time next week :( Thanks to anyone who helps me out :D

Edit: Updated with non-annoying mobile links

I know the feeling, Luke.

Exchange rate is correct. Remember to add tax (we pay 19% by going through Germany, which more importantly has cheaper shipping).

SSKs are indeed already claimed and Tinlong's always warned us about them anyway. Very likely none actually in stock.

The other Model Ms are a better bet. The one you linked is the cheapest and (hopefully the site is right in saying) the seller has several of them. I've ordered one too.

The two most expensive Model M industrials have been claimed. I actually have first dibs on the best one but it'll cost £100 plus shipping! So I guess not…

Thanks for that it's cleared a lot up :D

The thing that really caught my eye was the Trackball as they retail for like £100 here! :)

What kind of price are we looking at for the shipping, do we know? :)

Good question. Matteo ran the numbers back when the group buy was smaller:
http://deskthority.net/post112236.html#p112236

We're sharing something like €140 between all of us who are ordering in Europe. I think there's ten now. Maybe the extra weight will mean a bigger number split by the group, but we can work it out. Then you pay for your own shipping from Halvar, in Germany.

Quoting tinlong:
tinlong117 wrote:... So, the package will come to me and all the way to Europe.

I will estimate the package is 15 kg.

Shipping to me, around 30€.

To EUROPE, INT'L PRIORITY PARCEL, take around 2-3weeks.
...
DE, €122,50
...
So this was for 15 kg ... not sure if that's still enough atm. We'll know more when we know what's available and what's not.

I suggest we use one of these:

Got room for that, Halvar?

Meanwhile, more about beam spring vs. capacitative buckling spring identification from Dorkvader.
7bit does have something, as the layout is the same as some (many actually) beam spring keyboards. If you notice, though, the keycaps are cylindrical dyesub PBT of flip plate instead of the thick spherical doubleshot ABS of beam spring. The beam springs also colour the modifiers differently. Fun fact: beam spring keycaps are selectric typewriter compatible!

about the 104 "space unsaver" model F keyboards, you can take a 122 controller to make them work. We are still working on a general model F controller. This is made somewhat easier by the fact that it seems that all model F keyboards seem to use the same pinout to connect the capacitive matrix to the controller.

About terminology: IBM's term for beam spring key boards is "fly plate" their term for capacitive buckling spring keyboards (what we call model F) is "flip plate" and I don't know if they had an official term for the buckling spring over membrane "model M" technology.

Long story short: the "F" in model F stands for "Flip plate". I believe the M is for membrane.
The day we get these great beasts singing with custom controllers is one to savour, all right. I'd like to see what people made of my writing with one on my iPad.

I'll just let them deliver it to 7bit, he's got plenty of room now that R4 is over, and I've got his address now, too.

EDIT: Oh, reminds me I'll have to get some of the "Einigkeit macht stark" ("unity is strength") stamps that he so appropriately used, too.

What's the situation with the SSKs? They probably were sold a long time ago, but I've said earlier in the thread that I'd buy one if there happen to be enough of them available (I don't know the order other than Muirium being first!). It would be great if you could add me to the list, matt30.

Seeing as there's quite a few more buyers than 7, what kind of shipping + Zoll charges are you looking at? I'm trying to calculate them.

Posted: 07 Jun 2013, 22:00
by Muirium
I remember the kitty asking for an SSK! I think you are after me and Ne0phyte and maybe someone else. It's a looooooong thread.

Zoll is 19% on top of the prices listed on Taobao. Shipping is complex. There's a lot of ORs in people's orders, and downright mystery in the seller's stock for other things, like the Dolch. It'll be a fun calculation! Still, the more of us the better I think.

Dear matt3o,

Here is a list to add to my earlier one;

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=0.0 ... 2321497462

http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=0.0 ... 5530247940 Make sure to get 2 (TWO) batches of them. Just love their thickness (like me).

I suspect no one has selected the above two hence I think I'm the first one to select them (hope so). I love this place as much as Geekhack .........due to keeping my wallet in prime anorexic condition ;) .

I think I should do it in this way. This will close on next Tuesday (11 Jun 2013, no matter which time zone are you in). And I will ask the seller probably on 12 Jun or 13 Jun. Then, I will tell what's available and what's not. However, I will give 2 days for people who ordered out of stock goods to change their order or cancel it. After that, I will collect the first payment and order those goods. And the first payment do not include the shipping from me and shipping from your proxy in DE/BE/ES/AUS/AT/CA/US/SU/RU/PL/NZ/WHATEVER. As well as the TAXXX in your country.

P.S. SSK SHOULD BE OUT OF STOCK

P.P.S. I will ship small order directly, like the CeeSA's one, as he only order a set of caps.

Thanks! :)
Dankeschön! :P
Grazie!
