Im pretty sure that's the one with the messed up membrane. I bought it a couple of weeks ago and had to send it back. Most likely the membrane is torn. I didn't want to cut the rivets and separate the plates to find out, so I returned it.

snap like that! I'm striving to be in his financial position one day.
It's all about TIME.
When I was growing up, the whole slew of available and quite cheap mechanical keyboards where available, so I picked up some old keyboards that now seem to be worth something.
At the time, I only bought stuff that felt nice to use and type on but anything that didn't, was avoided like poison and politics.
When you finally arrive into financial security, you can take the time to do an inventory check to see what you have rather than running around spending huge sums, trying to buy stuff now that you could of easily have bought when they were first available.
Can only see that the Mechanical Keyboard Market is going UP and will stay there, for the foreseeable future.
Agreed. Time can either make or break an investment, but what he’s doing is also investing time in the restoration too. In my opinion, that is easy to underestimate. I just restored a beamspring for someone and it took well over 10 hours and that is without any painting needed. When you spend that much time and effort on a keyboard, you can get kind of attached and don’t really want to let it go because of the time/effort spent. I enjoy doing it, don’t get me wrong. I have no idea how someone like phosphorglow (who has restored hundreds of model M’s for people and does really high quality work) didn’t mentally/physically burn out years ago.

Alright guys, time to pool our money and buy all those keyboards.
@webwit: Can we use the memberships money for that?

Ah, this guy. I believe he had the same lot listed for $100K to start. Now down to $15K. Hmm. Most likely the good stuff has been cherry picked as he does sell (or lists anyway) other keyboards and systems separately for hundreds of dollars.

This has been discussed before. These guys have been selling off the valuable keyboards individually for some time, and now that those are gonee they're trying to unload the rest of the stock as a lot. It's not likely to be worth anywhere near the asking price, and may cost the buyer additional money for electronics recycling.

Is that Webwit's warehouse?
I'd love to take a road trip over there and pick a few things up. I'll have to PM them if that's the case
("By the pound" sale, anyone?)

IIRC that's the Omron version of those ball bearing switches I showed in a video recently.

Can't say I quite understand the demand for the space invaders yellowed ABS pad printed LISP keyboards. Do people actually have working LISP machines that they need keyboards for? Sure, the layout is unique, but why not build your own mechanically and structurally superior keyboard with the same layout then?

As I understand it, yes. There are a few left in the wild, and it's sort of a unique piece of hardware so it's probably enough trouble to keep them alive without people bidding them to the moon to cut up the keyboard. It is defnitely a friction point between keyboar enthusiasts and old-computer hobbyists of more conventional types.

I have some old systems laying around with hard to find keyboards and I'd rather not pay the extremely high prices for them just for a complete system.

A keyboard with these switches would be insaane!! (and break in a few years, because of the 2 million lifetime)

All of these eventually get posted here, and it has all the right words in the title, so here's another 5251 Beamspring:

Not sure if it being in China will affect what it goes for due to possible customs issues or the long journey it will likely have to take to the main markets in Europe and the USA?
Does look to be in nice shape though!
