Why does a terminal keyboard need mains power? And what's that switch on the backk doing? Is this modified for some reason?
Perhaps it's the terminal itself...

Indeed, that seems likely. If there's something like this inside it would explain the power cord and the big case size:

http://www.classiccmp.org/cini/pdf/rand ... 0%20v1.pdf

It's a single board terminal that was sold as a kit. Good documentation, which wasn't unusual since folks were literally building their own systems from component parts at that time. The Cinch-Jones connector would have enough pins for RS232 in/out and a video signal, and the power supply to run the board would be inside the case if it wasn't plugged into an S100 bus. The switch was probably for power.

It was a completely different mindset at that time, because a "terminal" (keyboard and monitor) only communicated in ASCII characters (what you see on the keycaps). No graphics, no GUI or mouse, and of course no internet.

Hotlinking from sites that don't explicitly allow it is an excellent way to see your emotes replaced with something else...

Are Omron Alps clones still in production?

Do they ship to the US? How much per switch?

you have to use a proxy, and they should be pretty cheap, but they're not the Omron Alps clones, they're the common B3GS

Does a B3g-s PCB footprint happen to exist?

Image you can edit posts instead of double posting BTW

I don't think that footprint is available, you'd have to make it yourself if you plan to use it. Tho outside legs are the same thing, so the switch basically has a built in jumper, which is super handy.

Sadly that amber listing only appears to have two switches available (unless it's mistranslated and I'm missing something)

Spotted this old baby;

The seller claims 'Buckling Spring' but I suspect it's something else......

Don't know anything about it but it looks like it could be a luggabel with a beamspring:

One of these sold for way less. Also the keyboard is MicroSwitch.

I figured that with the high price, the "Hall Effect Magnet Keyboard" was keyword spam. Still, luggable microswitch is pretty cool

This looks like it came from an old typesetting machine: "thin space" and ensp/emsp keys are a dead giveaway

I think this one is online for quite a while and it's quite a bit too expensive, I'd say 100€ max for an untested one, even if the condition seems to be alright on the pictures.

FWIW I got this one for $11.50 on eBay yesterday (unknown condition, crossing fingers).

I mean, for 11.50, even if it doesn't work that's still a great price on parts

Great non-yellowed doubleshot Alps? Best Alps chassis ever?

This would be worth getting even if you threw the actual switches into the garbage.
