This is great news, thanks. Another question: you state that whitefox will use costar stabs, but the picture of the PCB shows holes for pcb-mounted Cherry stabs: will they be kept in the final design?

the PCB supports cherry stabs, but we are not producing the plates for that.

That clears things up, thanks matt3o.

Will the first group buy be done on Massdrop, since they were so involved in the development? Or elsewhere?

one more thing: would there be interest for an assembly service?

I'd be fine with assembling it myself from a bare PCB since I have good tools, but I'm probably in the minority.

I definitely want to assemble it myself, but you probably knew that.

I would be interested in an assembly service as I don't have a soldering iron.
As it's being sold on Massdrop you could ask them about previous drops where kits or fully assembled was an option. I guess the proportion of orders for fully assembled would determine whether it's worth the extra logistical hassle.

Fully assembled limits the switches you can choose, obviously. (No Nixies for you!) But to what?

MassDrop offered the Infinity keyboard with everything but switches soldered:

Same with Infinity ErgoDox:

Original ErgoDox was all unsoldered, but used thru-hole parts:

Fully assembled is a great idea, though. We stopped soldering our computers in the 1970s! It's a niche desire, and turns away a lot of people otherwise into mechs.

I'm interested since I don't have the tools.

I believe MD can't offer a 100% assembled keyboard because of FCC issues, but that doesn't mean that I (and some other fellow makers) couldn't help less soldering iron savvy friends.

ok.
i want one.
any idea of what the price could be?
i’m gonna save for this
About keycap, can we have some alternative (like a control instead of this caps lock?) or maybe blank keycap?
but the layout is just perfect for me.

I'm not sure about pricing yet, sorry.
There are quite some options for the keycaps, including an FN and a CTRL in lieu of the caps lock.

I'm even more on board now. Perfect.

Good news / bad news situation.
Bad news: we won't make the gold edition. Sorry, I tried, but it adds a lot of work and we wouldn't make it by Christmas.
Good news: we will get FCC compliance, meaning that MD will offer a 100% full assembled WhiteFox. As far as I know this would be a first (but I might be wrong). Unfortunately I don't think it will be CE certified too. Also we will probably have a proper product box, no bubble wrap in generic box but a custom made packaging to fit all the components.
More good news: group buy starts next week! Hold tight!

Too bad for the black edition, perhaps later? The white version looks awesome though. Can't wait to see the group buy go live.

May I suggest a no keycap option for the GB? (I'm trying to support Granite Round 4

)
Fooey on the gold option, while you're at it, make it Topre!

I would be shocked if there was no naked option...

According to the first page, keycaps will be optional.
They are one of the most attractive features of the keyboard to me though

keycaps are indeed optional, but they will be pretty inexpensive... so... you might still want to catch 'em.
