that's exactly what I would like to do. I'd really like to go asking politely, shake a couple of ( dirty ) hands, drop some cash if I find something interesting - except the last passage might even be against the law in Italy, because that would allow the owners to make cash they can avoid paying taxes upon (this of course is what the government think, not what common sense would suggest).

sure! I can bolt mod the Don's IBM model M(afia) keyboard!

You can give them loose change but a cake or something now and then will probably grease the gears much better .

Oh yeah I'm gonna cake them real good today. That's also a lesson for your professional life ... bribe the shit out of people. Lube them like MX Clears! But be smart about it and never make them feel bribed. Bring small things and always have a reason/excuse to bring stuff. First time you hear someone mention "Compliance" seriously revise your strategy. Cake/food is perfect for this purpose since it's too cheap to raise awareness and the evidence will be eaten.

Holy moly I had the most exciting raid I could have ever dreamed of.

Took ten keyboards in total today including a lot of five G80 with thin lasered caps and windows keys.
One of my principles was that I wouldn't let a Cherry MX keyboard go to waste so they all landed in my box.

I decided I will take three "standard" pics of all the keyboards I keep and start numbering them.

Yellow Mitsumis are pretty cool. They're initially a bit disappointing due to the off-center binding in a full board but with some lube they could be glorious. And MX-compatible to boot!

Dat Cherry ESA-3000-HAGDO is a really weird one. The only other keyboard with that kind of references on the back is the ESA-3000-HASRO. First time I see that one. Great find.
The funniest part being that HASRO have dye-subs while that one have double-shots. Cherry weirdness!

I never know when the next raid is. They call me once they have enough keyboards together and I put on my raiding shoes.

Hey I got the mitsumi minis.
First impression: quite bad. Second impression: somehow ... special.
Why do some have a click and most don't? I can't see what makes them click. I cleaned two different in feel switches and now they feel more the same and both click...

Just a little status update for my fellow raiders ...

Was called in for another raid today ... but the tides have turned. Went through ~80 keyboards and got a single G80 thin laser caps. Won't even post a pic! I brought my GoPro to record a video of me sorting the keyboards but I start crying about 2/3 through the keyboards and curl up on the floor after finishing the last tray. So that's nothing I want to share with y'all.

Experiences like that are what puts me off this sort of thing myself. (And OCD cleanliness, lack of vehicle, wrong city for recycling etc.) The only ore I'd want to filter would be already highly enriched IBMium.

I do something like this if I had the option, the recyclers in my City are like Fort Knox.

Yeah that's completely normal. Sometimes they won't have anything at all for a month, then the week after they have more than you can carry xD .

Aw this has really lost it's hype a little. Was called in for a raid about 6 weeks ago and all I found was a single G80 MX Black thin pbt.

Called them this week and they said it's only half a box of keyboards so far

Maybe someone has beaten me at that source... maybe I'll look for another one ...

I would love to see another great find.

I've found that the recycling centres tend to have either fucktons or almost nothing xD . Finds are few and far between. Just be patient, you'll get lucky again at some point .
