It happened on various occasions.. I think the most recent one was this the metal keyboard that a Korean company announced for the mass market. The design was basically 100% identical to the 356 series, up to the logo. I don't think it ever hit the market after...

Though I don't know details on why they are pissed or at whom specifically. And I don't want to talk about sensitive stuff like this, if I really don't know for certain. With their latest model being called "Copy my Ass", you can be fairly sure that they are pissed at someone though ;)

Then of course there always is this, too...

*COUGH* :?

Also, they were extremely unpleased when some guys took the AIKON and had it mass produced and slapped a "(C) KBC" onto the PCB and sold it commercially on Taobao, even including the original OTD software.

OIC the noppoo mini...

the controller... believe it or not... the KBC 'bosses" have nothing to do with it. It was produced by a KBC forum member and somehow... KBC was printed on it ...

That's what I saw anyways. I might be wrong

There requirement to register does not necessarily promote security, these " some guys" can just register and take peeky boos. Where money and prestige are involved, there's sure to be some skullduggery.

Btw, turns out they locked down access because of a very pesky spambot, rather than imitators.

Any chance of them opening it up again if they manage to implement something to curb spamming?

I'll ask and see what I can find out about their future plans.

Tried to register Yesterday and Today but to no avail. I think there may be more to it than just spambots, to be protective of oneself is only natural.

Don't forums in Korea require you to enter social security numbers or something? Or is that only some of them?

I robbed one from an old Korean lady mindlessly wandering around the streets of Amsterdam.

I can understand OTD.kr and wanting to protect their pictures. On a weekly basis, we get inquiries from people who see model M keyboards on auction sites who re-use clickykeyboards pictures. Then when the buyer gets the item and it was not exactly as pictured, they then email me for support.

Worst case was a few years ago (2006?) when there were those who sent money for that 13H6689 Shuayico Ltd. (minimum order 30 units)

Haha before my time. But I always wondered about Shuayico, I think me and various others sent them requests for information, but never got an answer.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

This might of been mentioned elsewhere and I've missed it, but just a heads up that the album on OTD.kr seems to be open again. Browsing it right now for all the Korean loveliness I wasn't able to see for a while. Also appears to be rendering pages much faster and loading images faster. Maybe they've done some backend tweaking. Or I've just become used to the awful loading and rendering times of kbdmania.

Yep. It could be a bit faster now. They have changed servers earlier this month.

OTD has some plans to renew the site soon.

I'll discuss and suggest about joining OTD easier and the permissions
at the OTD admin's meeting. :)

Next the OTD vs geekhack wars!

It's best to not copy too much... these guys are born ready.
