That is what I was starting to worry about from some of the rumblings in this topic — Deskthority the nanny state.

He's having so much fun with his threads apparently he cannot quit. matt3o locked his thread, the next day he just opened another one, that's a very clear response. Zero respect right there. Mu would have been "on top of this" but that's worthless now.
Now that they see the sort of response they can get from us, nothing will help. I think that ending the response and staying strictly on topic talking about keyboards will do as much as anything can.

If you go and look at the post history for this one individual you'll see that they started by responding in other threads, then offering feedback, and then, slowly over time, turning into a troll. All of their behavior was rewarded with further attention and responses so they kept it up.

Mu had a knack for pithy, quick responses that would get people in line.
Your are right of course, it will be interesting to see if everybody is able to check oneself and keep composure whilst being flamed. For me personally this means I will steer clear of those threads altogether.

Well, it's worked before, so we just need to apply that same restraint here.

I don't believe anybody has a right not to be offended. In fact we all have something like the opposite, an obligation to listen to opposing viewpoints and to respond to them in a mature way.
This idea functions on the assumption that both parties are interested in listening to the opposing viewpoint, and judge that viewpoint as worth considering, and being mature. Many discussions may not have two parties willing to do that.
XMIT wrote: I'm all for free speech. I'm also all for natural consequences against shitty speech, such as ignoring people or not buying from them.
Well, everybody can have a platform these days, regardless of the nonsensical nature of their speech, so ignoring doesn't work like it used to. That said, I think it can work around here. Keep it up, people!

It is unfortunate to see this happening in a site that for the most part is handled in a professional tone and that it is filled with very useful information. My point of view is that after the first ranting post people should leave the guy alone, that will prevent the thread to be kept at the top of the spy list.

I took that as sarcasm. No one has rumbled about censoring the person or abrogating free speech as far as I've seen.

Nope. That is exactly what I did, to absolutely no avail. Quite the contrary, in fact.

In his new opened thread I asked for details about three keyboards and provided a technical hint about URL tags, all in a polite and wholly neutral manner. The answer again was grossly insulting.
In my following post, just following his, I made it politely clear I wanted to deescalate and asked him to edit his post accordingly (and gave him another technical hint about inserting videos he had been asking for):
taobao-f71/goodies-from-china-thread-re ... ml#p351080
He simply and completely ignored it (but opened a new thread where he tested my info about the video inserting feature, which shows he had in fact read my answer).

When a bit later I asked about another keyboard he had posted and again requested him to edit his post "to eliminate references to prior disputes and the following unfrendly remarks", he answered he would "consider" it the next day but was first going to bed:
taobao-f71/goodies-from-china-thread-re ... ml#p351155

So I tried to get back to topics, his answer was insults, and my repeated explicit attempts to deescalate were completely unsuccessful.

I wish he would be more responsive instead of always firing at people.

okay, now that I am coffeinated I'll give you my 2c.

I closed the original thread for two reasons: 1) it looked to me a way to sell stuff and we have a marketplace section for that. The author didn't give any kind of additional info on the keyboards, it looked just a taobao/alibaba storefront. 2) The discussion was really going offboard, people calling names and insulting. It was pathetic. In any other forum bans would have been applied.

That being said. My intention was not to punish Mr.Nobody for being enthusiastic about keyboards. I know for a fact that many DT members appreciated and used his proxy service, so what he is doing is not worthless. I honestly see nothing brutally wrong about his original posts, he got aggressive later on, but we weren't particularly welcoming. As a new member he was instructed about a good "code of conduct" to be used on DT and that -it is true- he ignored. It is also true that he is a post-machinegun and mostly on his own threads only.

On the other hand I equally don't like the "you shut up, we don't like you" attitude which is not how I want DT to be recognized. So I'm being monitoring the situation. I'll be sending some warnings to the interested parties. I'm confident it's just an adjustment period and in a few weeks everything will be back to normal.

I didn't know there is a thread about me here until now, and I just read everything in this thread. @KDBFR, thanks for distorting...it doesn't work though, impartial administrators just don't buy it:lol: but you have done your best.

No need to sigh...try to read it in a humourous mood...
