All the keyboards that I tested so far (since I opened this topic) have a PC/AT switch. This doesn't change anything since a Pentium class machine would clearly be using AT protocol just the same as my last gen PC

If it works on a Pentium, it should work on an i3.
Mind you, all the previously mentioned boards use the same controller which is a Motorola ZC86956P.
Until I can get another one, I'm still blaming the adapter.

It was the adapter! I just got two adapters from kbdfr (thanks!) and the keyboard works with both!
Now I need to figure out how to replace that DIN connector with a PS/2 one. Or maybe I'll just make my own cable.. moar sexy!

I feel you on that; but two things these have over the curly ones: they're brand spankin new!
And they won't go 'bad' in (a few) years time.
Otoh, I just reused the cable of an MY board, and it was a perfect fit for the g80-3000. Even the case was!
