It is close to ISO as is.
I think the converter would permit to customize the layout and use the japanese specific keys.

Does this support Hasu's HHKB controller? If so, it'd be an even better fit than the USB -> USB converter.

Hasu has a controller for the JP version, but the Keymap editor is not available for that version:
