okay, here is the deal:

I contacted UncleFan (in china) wheter he knows someone who owns a factory who can make these. He said he contacted the PLUM CEO, who said he may be interested if he discards them. Only thing left is Ellipse's response

Squid, Ellipse made it clear he doesn't want to sell them and wishes to discard the molds out of choice, not out of inability to find someone who'd buy them.

But that's not a good choice.

If ellipse wants to discard them, PLUM's CEO is interested. :)

This is the funniest thing that has happened to the thread, but I wouldn't mind going back to boring project updates :D

I wouldn't mind having a safe future for these keyboards, either! Not at all.

Before we talk about the future of molds in 2020 or something we should be more worried about getting a product out of this. People are waiting for years now for this bullshit "group buy".

@green-squid What you are doing is disrespectful. The business of Ellipse only concerns Ellipse. Don't go talking to others on his behalf, or at least ask to Ellipse first if he minds.

I just asked about this since the news hit me by surprise. My intention was not to do buisness behalf on him. I apologize :(

>do you have any idea what you are doing?

I just asked about it, and pointed out that this is NOT certain in my letter.

This may not have been such a good idea on my part..

I am more than grateful what Ellipse is doing here. His wonderful work and focus on details just is astonishing. I am looking forward holding the keyboard in my hands (the one he has decided to produce and the one I decided to buy).
Thanks Ellipse for everything you do.

You did not wait for his response before contacting UncleFan. That's not how asking works

My mistake. No one was hurt during the asking of this question. (hopefully...) ;)

It seems a little bit disrespectful, in my opinion, to try to go behind somebody's back after they clearly stated their intentions. I've seen (through all the updates) how meticulous Ellipse is with this project. $400 for this keyboard is more than reasonable and I personally would hate to see a bunch of sub-par imitations come from a project that only came about to create a perfect recreation of the Model F down to IBM's strict tolerances.

Me messaging Uncle first instead of ellipse was not a good move, I agree. But my intentions were/are not to backstab him. I hope by the time he sees this, he sees that I screwed up on my part and apologized.

I also agree that he's selling it for a great price, but I also want to have these keyboards continued being made at a cheaper price, even if there's no metal plate or something.

GOD BLESS open source! Seriously. While I doubt that he will open source it (since he put lots of $$ into it), I hope the molds will be safe :)

But he say he was going to ... I don't really see how he would changed his mind if it weren't for what you already said earlier ... which would be for this to be a huge promotional move.

In anyway, reading usually helps with understand, I don't think you should hope for something that was said to not happen ... see where I'm getting ?

I know how to read, but that still doesn't tell me what he could do with them if they're not sold nor discarded.
