I feel I should crash deskthority each week and break backups, just to get sympathy and credits.

Honestly, I've started pointing people here instead of Geekhack, lately, because of crap like that.

It's a shame. It lost the best part of the argument tp4tissue was desperate to win about USB being worse than PS/2. There was some good info in some of my replies. Plus, I WON

GH is pretty fail now. It's sad, too, because, IMO, it really helped open up the mechanical keyboard "scene" in the US.

Then the OCN crowd came along...

Some complain about DT being too "vintage," but I think it's more of a true appreciation for quality keyboards than the general "which off-the-shelf, commodity keyboard will maek mee win gaymz!!!"

(Types the guy with the Filco keyboard.)

Oh. How prosaic. Server crash.

I was hoping for DRAMA and being UNIQUE!

Plus I was getting used to being a "Guest". It sounded like I was at Disneyland.

I'd actually say more than just the US - before Geekhack, the mechanical keyboard scene consisted of Japanese, Koreans, plenty of scattered Model M users (mostly in the US, but a few in Europe and Australia), and the odd Alps or Cherry user. (And I remember when Alps and Cherry were conflated by some people!)

Geekhack also opened it up to Europe, as well as any other country with a high percentage of English speakers. And, it seemed to concentrate quite a lot of knowledge, debunk quite a lot of long-standing myths, and get some cool shit done.

I think a lot of the problem is, iMav doesn't seem to really know how to run a large community - in the early days, it really felt like a small forum set up for his friends, and that approach doesn't scale when you promote the thing EVERYWHERE and become the English-language keyboard site. And, if I had to guess, he doesn't have the time to invest in running it right.

Yeah, the fact that the site name apparently lead to a lot of hacking attempts didn't help either. It's just sad.

It was down because of DDOS attacks, hacking attempts, a clickclack sale, a database upgrade, failed backups, a hardware upgrade, a RAID failure, wiki restore failure, misaligned position of Venus in the night sky, JAVA ate the SQL server.

^ Geekhack must stay up, because it is our kiddy filter!

Doesn't work too well. Silat got through.

And Bhtooefr, even if BroDragon from KBC-CHINA ended up being the Number One Keyboard Expert On The Planet I'd never say it.

Unpatriotic.

Haha, we have 40 moderators with an infraction system and you don't!

Oh.

Wait.

geekhack postage = CONUS only
deskthority postage = worldwide

That really pisses me off.

Only if you are Hawaiian or Alaskan.

OK, Saipan. But that's only 15 miles wide.

Don't need it. I use a detection tool called the ripometer.

Is the dotted line the threadcrapping or the demongolater limit?

Anyway, GH posts and viewership has dropped significantly in the keyboards subforum and shifted to Capitalist Commercial Serious Business discussions. All work, no play.

No, not really. But I got into two group buys. Difficult to do if banned.

I'm a Key whore and not ashamed to admit it. I got passion in my keyboards and I'm not afraid to show it.
