The way I see it is DT is more like the 4chan of mechanical keyboard forums, which is why I feel lurking is the best option(for me.) Useful info and such, but a bit more volatile. GH is like Reddit, sometimes a circlejerk, but ultimately a more friendly environment. This thread reinforces my opinions. And personally, I didn't mind Ripster, he is extremely knowledgeable and was like the wildcard of GH although one can see how he could be disliked, but welcome to the internet. I still refer to his wiki's. Ok, back to lurking.

We hardly ever banish people except spammers. CLiB got banned because he registered and immediately started attacking this community with a flood of posts. I'm sure if you try to troll GH in such a way, you will be banned too. Ripster got banned because he started a spam flood attack in order to get banned. You have to ask him why he attacked this site. Now if we add you to the picture, lurker who unlurks just to tell us you don't like us because we were not friendly to these persons, it seems the theme here is that our only problems consist of geekhack members - members who get bored when geekhack is down or whatever. Unless of course you can explain to me how this site could have been less "volatile" and more "friendly" by supporting CLiB's mission to attack this site and support ripster in his flood spam attempts.

Deskthority isn't what you say. There are far less personal attacks and bickering here.

Geekhack is a circle jerk however. It's getting worse too. Still, it's good for group buys at least.

Luckily most GH members were just happy to be able to post and read on DT when GH was down. Yet apparently some decided to dislike DT as soon as GH was back.
To them I would recommend to stick to lurking.

Myself, I left GH because of the moderation policies (Ripster allowed to run rampant, "accidentally" deleting users that he didn't like, yet flamewars were allowed to go on for ages, and then the 180 to being totalitarian deletionist, suppressing any dissent), the constant rollbacks, the incredibly lax security, and the devolution into Geekcap.

(And I joined DT well before R00TW0RM, but after that, I've decided to not log into GH again.)

I don't think I'd stop visiting gh. There are some nice people over there. But the signal to noise ratio....

i like geekhack more because of three indisputable facts that are as follow:
(1) webwit intimidates, hence my low post count haha
(2) ripster is democrat
(3) imav sent me a birthday postcard

Hey come on, TheQsanity. Ripster's political alignment is what made me leave geekhack in the first place. Let's try and take this seriously...

I only see a male duck correctly stopping at the "Please keep off the grass"-sign.

No pr0n scene where he has s3x with his mother.

I joined GH first, only came here to join CeeSa's WASD cluster tour. Then I started visiting here more often, and then I only visited GH once a week. And then, suddenly I didn't visit GH anymore at all. Then, when this whole cracking issue appeared I noticed that I didn't notice GH going down, until my beloved DT was flooded with Geekcappers.

I don't join or leave a forum just because someone is republican or democrat. I am on GH more just because they have more off-topic conversations. I use both sites.
