My goal is to run a new buy quarterly, with 2 full sets and 2 special packs (like anti caps kits, clear on X color lock pack, etc).

GMK dosen't have a legend that says Fn, so that would have to be made new and could add a hefty cost. Could use 'Layer' instead as it existed from some 2000 series boards. Same thing for windows/menu key on other than 1.25, adding blanks instead of pad print. 5.5 space probably won't happen as they don't have a mold for it, 6 is possible if there is demand. A lot of keys will already be included, check the list in the OP. Only need to list suggestions not there for specific key sizes or legends (only suggest legend you have seen on Cherry doubleshots).

Layer works. Was Meta/Hyper/Super ever used on cherry doubleshots?

Where they specific about legend costs? I had done a short request in December and their response did not sound like they are not willing to do new legends, as long as they are text.

Also, are they still holding on their 400 sets MOQ?

BTW, I didn't like having to enter a 'secondary language layout' - perhaps make that question optional?

Dvorak is not listed :(

There is an 'other' box, and you can enter something not listed. Trying to come up with cut thresholds... if there is not X% of user for it gets dropped, what is fair and reasonable? 15%?
Reason for asking for 2 language choice, is in event things get cut I would like to know if there is something else one would buy. Some may not get first choice, but maybe a second choice stays, and they will buy that. Helps me with estimates of if meeting moq.
Also many people are multilingual, and may prefer to have thier 2nd language in thier language pack.

Current polling... Dolch in the lead by a large margin, three way tie of Olivetti, Skidata, and TA. It's looking like we might only need to offer US/GB/DE/ES/SF as there are so far very few entries for other languages. If you need other language you better start campaigning at other forums, though I would like everyone to post about it on any other appropriate forums (tech related, language studies, etc) you may visit as well to drum up interest in general anyway.

can I just suggest that Æ and Ø is included in Swedish/Finish? it would make it more of a Nordic set and is only 2 keys ekstra to satisfy 2 more nationalities.

Also ÆØ looks much better that ÖÄ ;)

Just reporting the current results, it dosen't mean anything more than that at the moment. We have plenty of time to figure out what makes the most sense and to get it organized.
Some write in language have more entires than some predefined choices. Might need to add JP latin to the mix.

Based on current results, I was thinking to restructure the language packs to:
PACK 1:
US/GB/JP (Roman only) language specific keys
PACK 2:
DE/NO/DK/SF language specific keys
PACK 3:
ES/IT/PO language specific keys
PACK 4:
??/TBD based on need

What do you think about it?

Posted: 21 Jan 2013, 18:47
by pasph
can you show the percentages of the results grouped by each of those packs?
(horrible english, i know that)

I would be curious to have that information too, as well as quantities.

I don't really look onto my keyboard while typing, and also I type Neo instead of QWERTZ, so I might just put DK on my keyboard, just for the looks. Also I like Denmark.

I have no idea how to make googledocs make me a chart with the information like a pie graph or whatever. I am feeling too lazy to do so manually at the moment.
Not exact but a quick glance there are 200 votes so far with US is highest, followed by German, UK and Spanish for the top 4 which comprise probably around 90% of all votes together. Everything else has between 3 to 20 votes each combined with first and second choices so not a lot really.

So more or less I took a leader language and then grouped it with the closer related ones that have some voting presence.

Time to start a campaign on the Swedish forums then I guess.

What color will these key caps have?

Will there be MODIFIER, NUMERIC, FUNCTION and POS kits available?

Posted: 22 Jan 2013, 21:27
by IvanIvanovich
Colors will be decided by poll, so that is up to the userbase. As of now I am thinking base kit, modifiers pack, language packs and special pack. Special pack could be anything that is needed not covered in other packs.
I don't want to have dozens of options. I want to keep everything as simple as possible.

Pricing for 104 set with 400 MOQ €60 / $80. Seeing how majority interest is currently for US ANSI... I think I will make that base and offer one big pack for all the ISO layouts keys that have enough interest. Will get for pricing on that pack once decided what it will contain... and we will go from there. I think this will make more sense than what I was originally proposing and be most cost effective overall for the majority of buyer.
Now all that will stand in the way of getting this done is the MOQ.
