IMSTO has them as well as Mouser. Anyone know how many and what sizes you get for $10?

Wait a minute... The microcontroller for the MX Mini U replica is an ATmega32u2 or ATmega32u4, right?
It is not some type of 8-bit AVR µC without hardware USB support like the ATmega32A ?
If the µC is one without built-in USB support, then I would like cancel my order.

OP says atmega32, but you're right: Atmel says no USB on the base version:

http://www.atmel.com/devices/ATMEGA32.aspx

We really need ATmega32U4, like in the Teensy 2:

I believe it's an ATmega32A-AU but I can't say for sure...

From what I have gathered searching quickly on the 'Net, the Face U and MX-mini U would run the ATmega32A-AU at 12MHz, with the PS2AVRU firmware. It is quite featured with layers and macros and can auto-sense to support both USB and PS/2. I see no dedicated counter/multiplexer or LED driver chip, so I suppose that the µC also drives the LEDs directly. That's a lot of things in firmware, and I don't think any of the firmwares for the ATmega32U4 can do all that.
However, this GB is not for the original FaceU or MX-miniU but for replicas with also support for ISO.

it's called faceu replica because the schematics for that are freely available. I believe the seller simply added ISO compatibility looking at the facew. the controller is very likely the same, but I'll have tinnie ask for confirmation.

confirmed it's an atmega32a, so V-USB, meaning we are not that free to burn whatever we want on it. The are still very easy to burn but we would need a custom firmware.

For me is Ok, I have a Windows VM that I use when I really need Windows, and my work laptop is also running Windows. So for me is more than Ok.
Let the invoice come :D

Is there a "normal"/easy way to reconfigure/reburn it, at least in Windows, with the default firmware?

To change the layout you just turn on the keyboard with Q pressed and burn the new firmware via USB. I'm pretty confident this will work with linux as well, but I can't tell for sure.
