Abandon all hope.
Signature Plastics LLC wrote: Thanks for the email! Unfortunately yellowing is a natural side affect of ABS plastic over time. We do not take steps to prevent this as the yellow occurs over the course of a number of years. We would recommend not keeping keycap sets directly in sunlight as that can speed up the yellowing process.
Everything will have its prime and its decline and eventually ceases to exist.

I do think Round 7 can serve to delight your visual sense and your fingertips at least for your life time and for your children's life time; and occasional (once per 7-10 years? if you are typing in some daylight) Blondierung treatment is both very economical and simple.
Just hope you will not to miss this best SA marathon Group buy in case you are patient enough - for my taste, the fonts are better than the default SP fonts.

One workaround is to use UV protective spray, but the layer will wear off after some time.
Of course, you can look into those PBT caps, but dyeing light color legends on darker caps is non-existent. EnjoyPBT has something closer: laser-engraved legends that let them have the legends etched deep enough to expose the original white color of the dyed PBT plastic. However, they do not do high-pro, such as those by MaxKey; and they do not engrave the whole set. Convince these parties and you can open your group buy, perhaps at a loss, perhaps a gain? Or perhaps the Chinese do not need you to bear the responsibility.

So I just got an invoice with instructions to pay using PayPal... except am located in the Czech Republic. I thought PayPal was just for the US?

Edit: okay it seems that the bot didn't identify the iso code of the country correctly. Is there any way to delete the order, or to get a new invoice with the correct instructions?

There, just made the payment for my order. A measly 310 key-caps. I'm now ready for the mental asylum.

Hey, who took my Model F straight jacket?!

You're not even close to insanity, Iggy. I just added up my Round 6 invoice totals in Excel and I ended up ordering a total of 1357 keycaps. And there are 28 others out there who have spent even more than I have (though their totals no doubt include keycaps from Round 5, which I missed out on).

So you stole it.

On a more serious tone, why are these key-caps so popular? Am I missing the obvious?

They are classy, with perfect color combos, and perfect legends. Seems obvious to me why they're popular.

The colorway is one part of it, but i think there are quite a few factors that contributed even more:
  • 1. There were way more options in R5 and R6 than in most other GBs, and the same goes for R7

    2. R5 and R6 included paying Signature Plastics to make quite a number of new molds and legends, meaning that these GBs included keys that hadn't been avaliable in previous SA GBs

    3. The whole spectacle makes the whole thing feel more special, I guess

For me it was all about the colorways. Space Cadet and Honeywell are my all-time favorites. And it didn't hurt that there were enough kit options to make the layout choices I wanted.

It's not 996. Otherwise, you should definitely find some excuse to order just 4 more.

Stumbled upon an old thread on DT, talking about recreating the Symbolic keyboard:

keyboards-f2/recreating-the-lisp-keyboard-t497.html

It's somewhat happening!

My assumption is that everything with VIOLETT in the name is going to be produced during this first round 7 run. I hope that's the case, anyway, having just put in a VIOLETT TKL and space bars order.

Is there no North American PayPal collector right now? My second batch of kits are coming back with instructions for Euros, not the USD of my initial batch.

That's odd. My order of a couple of weeks ago came through in USD. Did you include USA as the last line of your address?

No changes have been made to my (Canadian) address.

I ordered some stuff (wife's end-game set) in February & paid. My initial instructions & amount didn't account for the discount/rebate so I ended up with a healthy credit. I used some of that credit on a subsequent order of a pair of in-stock R6 leftovers, which I received a couple of weeks ago. Then yesterday I placed an order for the caps for my own end-game set that consumed the remaining credit & more, prompting the pay-in-Euros invoice & the confusion. All using the same valid & correct address.

Hello there excuse my ignorance i'm new around Deskthority however I have a quick question. Is round 7 still active with SP creating caps for it? I was under the impression that SP announced last year they wouldn't be fulfilling anymore of 7-bits runs is that not correct?

I know. But when these things are said by a business, it's more like news from tabloid.
Business and earning opportunities govern.

That message was written in January of 2017, and after Round 6b was fully paid a couple of months later, SP established two conditions under which they would consider further group buys designed by 7bit: (1) each GB had to be significantly smaller in terms of number of colors and kits, and (2) someone else other than 7bit had to be the GB intermediary.

From the looks of things, 7bit has honored the first restriction by only running one pair of colors at a time, along with a much more modest kit collection, and has somehow managed to get them to relax the second restriction.

I wonder if I place an order now and these caps will still take a long time before production/delivery when I would have t pay for them.

Posted: 18 Apr 2018, 01:21
by zslane
In the past, 7bit would announce various deadlines for payment, after which he would clear all unpaid orders, making those kits available to other buyers. So in effect, the sooner you pay, the sooner you are guaranteed not to have those kits removed from your invoice and put back into the pre-order pool. Historically, 7bit has been very generous with his deadlines, and you probably won't see such an announcement for many months to come.

Just wanted to say that I opened my mailbox today to find a totally unexpected German posted package. Contained within was a lone HONEYB/WEBWIT150/RED kit that I can honestly say I never knew that I never had. Thanks 7bit!

I haven't seriously been on DT in a couple years but it is nice to return to see that this has progressed to a 7th round

@Zslane Thanks! I have a nice Round 6 set incoming from three different directions, I’ll get started on a Round 6 cream/violet set now.

Is 7bot supposed to send a new message once the invoice is paid? I finally managed to pay last week, and by typing WASSUP, the bot just sends me the same invoice all over again.

It can take a few weeks before it’s registered, I had that with round 6. Send a new wassup after the weekend or so.
