Production aid TRS 80 (if you believe the seller didn't spray paint the decals on himself):

What would tactile rubber switches be though?

Posted: 10 Feb 2016, 14:27
by Halvar
Pretty much all rubber domes are tactile ... you have the rubber dome breaking down when you press them. The problem is that the tactile bump has nothing to do with actuation.

With N-key rollover doesn't sound like a membrane keyboard. "Rubber tactile switches"...maybe keytronic?
Having said that, I have an earlier Qtronix with this exact layout and led positioning that is MX Blue, so maybe the printing on the back is in error.

Probably Topre

10m MTBF is pretty high for rubber domes, but not as high as Topre. I know some Scorpius keyboards used BTC dome with slider; maybe it's that.

So we're having a debate whether this keyboard is crap, manure or dung ?

Why not go bid 200 € on it and see what happens? :evilgeek:

I only bid that much on Cherry HAD boards.

Then you should have deeper pockets, I hear they are 400 € now

10 years from now, even HAD boards will be rare... so you guys just need to understand that a 400€ HAD is a long-term investment lol. In 20 years, OG doubleshots without shine will be valued at 5.000€! In 30 years @photekq will be estimating his NIB boards collection to be worth 500.000€ and so on ROFL

Perhaps something like Mitsumi Hybrids on that rubber switch board.

10 years from now, the "clicky keyboard fad" may die.

We will all be typing on Topre, the victor of the epic switch war of 2022.

There is some truth to this mechanical keyboard price inflation of course. I'm pretty sure I could have picked up SSK's for little to nothing in the late 1990's.

Posted: 10 Feb 2016, 18:07
by Wodan
The SSK are out of production though. Cherry still makes MX switches and GMK will make you 3-4 brand new classic beige keycap sets for 400€. At least when someone finally runs that GB. Their prices for non-fancy color caps are supposed to be lower :)

You can see it just by browsing old threads. This happened with direct user sales, ebay auctions and even group buys. I still don't understand why in 2011 it was 55$ for a set of imsto dyesubs and now it's 75-100$ considering the market is much bigger now and the economies of scale should lower the price, not increase it.

On the other hand, I completely understand it with vintage keyboards, there's a limited supply and the demand has increased.

ermm, OG Cherry sets are way better than GMK counterparts afaik. As someone recently pointed on GH, we are actually seeing some of the original tooling degradation and awful QC in the most recent sets :/

I would say sellers are more greedy than ever! :P

I agree with this. My hyperfuse set has legends that have a layer that is peeling. I have no clue why this is happening.

I'll soon be able to compare Skidata with Skidata+ ... Comparing classic beige with the fancy colors/plastics used in most GB is a little unfair. I'm sure results would be better if GMK was making Hyperfuse sets by the thousands. If you have a 3d printer, you will understand how annoying it is to change to material from a different vendor and sometimes even to a different color.

Anyway, I'd love to see a set of brand new GMK classic beige caps and see how they compare to OGs.

And hell yeah make this members-only.

Whoever buys this I really want to buy those numpad and caps lock keys. Pretty please? :P

EDIT: I'm just gonna offer him 80$ and see how it goes.

Also a few more interesting boards from Yahoo JP. Not sure what switches any have (if anyone knows that would be cool information) but alas. More to come later.

Looks like it could be mechanical, not sure. http://page12.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/a ... p503581226
