If you press F5 enough times, you too can win fantasy prizes in the last contest.
And this one for me was the best way you could do that contest ;)

Great Idea for sure!

I came to deskthority to see if anyone had won any. But this is a nice forum nonetheless. Very minimalistic and clean.

Poor iMav. He doesn't deserve the flak he gets for the site going down.

Though I wonder if the vBulletin system has something to do with why Geekhack goes down so easy.

Posted: 10 Mar 2012, 01:36
by captain
It doesn't appear to be "down", just overwhelmed, and there must be some code that just bails on fulfilling requests under these loads.

Posted: 10 Mar 2012, 01:38
by captain
iMav should know by now that his server cannot handle the loads of a ClickClack 4grab, and he should ban them. But, it's his server....

I think we should start a server fund.
We all pitch in to buy geekhack a nice 8-core server with 24 GB of ram and a serious raid array.

Posted: 10 Mar 2012, 01:41
by captain
Or maybe he should get a BBS that is capable of handling the load on less than bleeding edge hardware. ;-)

by roguemaster8
That too.

At this rate, I'm starting to agree with raising the prices. What do you think the retail value of a ClickClack skull should be worth? I'd say about $75.

I think it's pretty funny how the DTers kvetch about the GHers whining about CC's 4grab hosing the site. lol

Posted: 10 Mar 2012, 01:47
by captain
At $75 only the elite will have a CC. That's sad, but good for CC's bank balance.
I just need to learn how he makes them. I'm not without talent! ;-)

Does anyone know how to tell FireFox to ALLOW the redirect that DT wants to make after every post? I get stuck with this bar across the top of the screen every time.

Posted: 10 Mar 2012, 01:52
by roguemaster8
Nah, a part time job could cover the cost of one.
How about $50?

As for making them, I remember reading about dual shot injection process. It wasn't double shot, but something a little different. I'm sure the guy does it at a local shop somewhere. I bet a competing Skull keycap manufacturer would help the market.

I have been watching lots of videos about plastic injection moulding. It looks like a very large investment to get going at that level. So, I'm assuming that ClickClack is doing something like Fimo/Scuptey. I can't figure out how he makes the stem though.
