Reset flash counter not possible when phone is dead. Also: Can't save private data on removable SD-card only, so sending phone to mfgr is a bad idea anyway. It is like the useless warranty for a hard disk.

I know, but I don't consider that hack very practical
you have to use a external power supply to make it work

All "Nexus Edition" means is that the interface is relatively close to stock Android and the device is unlocked. The software and upgrades will come from Samsung. Will it come out faster because Samsung doesn't have to port their Touchwiz glue and skin to the next Android? Maybe. It is entirely up to Samsung which will come out first. Maybe they will use their Nexus Edition customers as beta testers for their platform port before sending it to the majority of their customers. Maybe they will take their time since the customer base is small.

I picked up the S4 in the beginning of May. Battery life is great (once you turn off all the bells and whistles of the Touchwiz UI). Removable battery means I can carry a spare and just swap out and go instead having to plug in somewhere. OTG cable works great for flash drives, keyboards, and mice. The MHL to HDMI adapter can be used with or without being plugged into a power source. Cyanogenmod officially supports the device, and there are plenty of developers making ROMs. Encased in an Otterbox Commuter, it gains great protection too.
(not my pic) I use it mostly for web browsing, gchat, Playstation/SNES/NES gaming with PS3 controller, with occasional tethering and phone calls. The specs on it are high enough that it will still be a decent phone/device two or three years down the road (assuming you take care of it).

They advertised the feature, but after the first two sales rounds they removed it from their website, because they had forgotten to give the USB Port enough voltage to support otg . They never even answered the bug report about it(last time I checked) .

You can always vote for the Fernsig 5000 series, which aren't actually smartphones.

However, it is the sturdiest, longliviest and securiest phone in the list and does not require a root-hack. Just connect the wires, take the reciever and dial the number. It also comes with an adjustable ring tone including native vibration alarm.

I'd try the Q10. The keyboard is reason enough.

Those touch only phones may have a bigger screen for web browsing, but to me virtual keyboards are a pain if you want to send e-mails longer than 2 words more than 2 times a day.

Concerning the "openness" of the OS, Meego/N9 would be the way to go. I really hope Jolla can find a niche where they can survive for a couple of years and bring us some phones with a "real" Linux installed. (And maybe a device with a physical keyboard...).

Can somebody please build a slider phone with MX-Blues? I don't care if it's a little bit thicker! (Back on my old E71 for now...)

I wouldn't bother with the iPhone 4. Its total cost of ownership is not much less than the 5, certainly not enough to justify having the lesser phone.

I also voted for BB Q10 and the HTC One. They're said to be excellent. Apocalyptically unpopular, but excellent. Which one is the Amiga and which one is the Atari ST of our age remains to be settled. At least there's Huawei around these days keen on acquisitions.

Well, people have no problem holding a 5"+ baking tray next to their ear and talking to it. Where's the difference in holding a G80 to your head? Doesn't have to be the full 102/105 keys, I can live with a 1800 series...
