A mysterious board made by Alps this time, hope you like it

When I thought I'd seen all the Alps strangeness there's always more to be found. Nice, 1997 is a surprisingly "late". I do own an SGI granite with Alps SKCM white damped and I must say I prefer the Alps SKCM cream damped in my AEK2, the difference in feel is noticeable.

I wouldn't be surprised if other people feel like you, the cream ones feel a little bit softer. Still, I prefer the white ones myself.

Also the later produced AEK2s have these white dampened switches. I got one (produced in Ireland late '96), but the condition of the board and the switches is so bad, I can't give a fair opinion on how these feel. Different feel and sound across the board.

Do you suppose the shininess on the plate was from a spray of some kind of rust-resistant coating?
Nice review as usual! Thanks!

I don't know really. Could be, or it could just be stainless steel of some sort. If I still had SEM/EDX time I could find out the material composition quite easily xD.

Interesting. I have seen very similar keyboards, but with Alps rubber dome with slider switches. Also those lasered keycaps are rather ugly and certainly no match for Alps' earlier PBT dyesub ones.
