I am curious...there was a post awhile back about our ages. I am wondering about professions? Participation by all is encouraged  You can submit up to 2 answers, for instance ex-military and sales or whatever applies.

Student & General labor, as seasonal lawn care work isn't considered agriculture.

I'm a mix of one of the above (software developer/programmer) AND one that's missing (systems administrator).

Fixed that :) umm...why did it delete all the answers when I added another option? The % might change, but not the votes?

I think it resets the results when the poll is changed. I had something similar when I called the Neon Green name change (which is still backed by their discoverer, I might report :P ). It's a pain in the ass xD .

Any chance you could add government to that list?

You should quit your job and get paid to run group buys, like 7bit. Except better!

Are you telling me 7bit makes a living off his group buys !?

You'd be getting your keycaps from some mediteranean island if I could do that!

I might be exaggerating... but I think it's totally feasible.

Student, mechanical engineering - but that's more programming than building mechanical stuff nowadays.

You're still not bloody getting root or unrestricted sudo.

As a matter of fact I do:

I don't always test my code, but when I do it's in production.

To my fellow brothers (and sisters) who work to ensure that the network is up for all the other commoners.

Interesting that in this society nowadays the answer to the question "Who are we?" is defined by one's profession.

Isn't it sad?

Who are you? - I'm Peter... SysAdmin.

=(

it is a bit sad, but it's a reality we have to live with.
Most of the people today do not have the patience to listen to "who we are", the want to quickly note "what we are" so that they calculate our worth. I do it too, involuntarily, and I am not proud of it.

BTW, all this SysAdmin talk reminded me of the short story When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth

Asking about a person's work is somewhat of a last resort question I ask when I meet someone, as we are more than the job we do at the moment. I developed this habit after being entirely too self conscious about my own occupations and finding work-related conversation to be somewhat of a dead end. While our source(s) of income and life's work are important, we should view ourselves and others as more than our current occupation. We deserve more than to be reduced to a title.

Where are you leading them? Into the abyss?

Tell your system administrator he's fired.

The only one who gets to test their code in production is ME!

Unless it's Python. I'm not an idiot.
