2 Pin vs 3 Pin Switches

I'm not going to get real wordy here. What's the difference and how would a 3 pin be wired (not using a PCB)?

I think all vintage switches I've seen with three pins have two of them wired to the same pole.
Thus, those pins can act as a jumper wire when mounted on single-sided PCB, obviating the need for additional jumpers.
