A reminder as to what “variable” actually means:
If it was 30g across the board, I’d be into it.

What if I told you all keyboards have variable weighting as Topre tolerances are +/- 15 grams? I have some modifier keys that feel less tactile than other keys. They also stiffen overtime to go from 45g to 55g as you noted in another thread.

±15 grams?? So you're saying that two keys could differ by 30g and still both be considered within tolerance? That seems like ... a lot.

Ah, preying on statistics!
Someone with the appropriate gear should make a force curve chart of as many Topre keys (and keyboards) as they can. Then scatterplot the results so we can spot the bell curves for their actual tolerances.
I don’t doubt that 15g figure shows up in the documentation somewhere. It’s always good to under promise and over deliver. (Industrial lawyers insist on it!) But it certainly doesn’t show up on my boards.
The difference between uniform 45g (my new HHKB) and uniform 55g (my lightly used 87U) is night and day. All of each board’s keys are alike, yet you can tell the boards apart with a single finger and a blindfold! But yes my heavily used 2014 HHKB is trending towards 55g now—quite nicely, I might add—even its somewhat less used keys, which surprises me. Do I really max it out that much?
My interest in 30g domes is for an eventual swap in one of those two HHKBs. They’re both deliciously uniform though. So I’d not Frankenstein one with a “variable” pick ‘n mix set.

Speaking of statistics, let's play with the numbers a bit (and there was much rejoicing).
The meaning of the ±15g would depend on the fraction of rejected switches that Topre accepts.
Assuming that the switch characteristics follow a normal distribution and that they accept 0.1% rejections (i.e. switches which fall outside the tolerance), about 73% of switches would fall within 40-50g.

I just pulled it out.
WOW, its actually a full sheet, so they must manufacture it with variable weights in one sheet.

OK, I tested it with coins, and same amount of coins is needed to press those domes, so its uniform 45g.
Same amount that needed on my other 45g Topre.
