Hi! I wasn't sure if I should post here, or Marketplace, but I couldn't find an answer searching the forum.

The spacebar is registering spaces even with no spring on the switch. I lack both the aptitude and time to properly disassemble and troubleshoot why, but I recognize the value of these keyboards and I'd like to get it repaired. The space bar has always been a bit finicky where the spring becomes spongy with use and i have to adjust the spring. I've followed the key puller guides a few times with success but now it just seems broken beyond my ability to repair.

I can drop it off to someone if you're reasonably close to the Boston Metro area otherwise of course I'd pay return shipping and the repair fee.

It should take you under an hour to review the manual on the project web site to get an understanding of these great old style keyboards.

The flipper contacts the PCB (which sends the key signal to the computer) when no spring is installed, so what you describe is the expected behavior.

The manual shows how to correctly reinstall the spring and how to adjust the spacebar specifically, so the actual adjustment work usually takes minutes.

No specialized skills or tools are needed to maintain a Model F, outside of regular tools (screwdriver, pliers, tweezers, etc.).

There's not much value in the replica - only high initial price. I disassembled one of those and internally, QC is nonexistent. I'm actually surprised there are no reports of broken USB cables yet.

I can repair it for cost of the parts - but I'm in Seattle, so shipping might be expensive. PM me if you won't find more reasonable alternatives.

Also, shipping is likely to dislodge the springs at keycap side (which rarely happens to original Fs, but seems to be frequent scenario with replicas) - which is fixable by pulling the key and inserting it with keyboard in a weird position, no tools or much skill required.
