Hi folks,

Which color do you prefer for Happy Hacking keyboard, black or white? I find that black looks a little bit more modern, but white is sweet too, hard to choose. I would be really interested to hear your opinions.

White is oh so right.

Always comes down to personal preference of course. White with blank caps would be mine.

Had a white one (below), which now belongs to phetto, but I think I prefer the black.

I like both colors =)

Looking at the white HHKB really gets my blood flowing.

I love white even if it doesn't last forever.


I don't know if pro2 get yellow, though, at least I've never seen yellow pro2.

How does that original HHKB feel after all these years?

The original is quite a different beast. Spoiler: no Topre!

The Pro 2 is PBT, which is largely yellowing resistant compared to ABS. Or is the spacebar the odd one out?

I've used two pro's as my main keyboard for a decade since 2003/4, they're still in good condition without fault. To be honest I can't found any inferiors on my pro's in comparison with even new stock pro2. So far I have no reason to use pro2 instead of my pros.

But two years ago I did overhaul and lubbed both of them because I found plungers were worn a bit and lost their smoothness. Not to mention, even Topre switch doesn't last forever but it'll keep its condition for one or two decades if you take care of its maintenance proplerly.

Both pro and pro2 have ABS case and PBT caps except for space bar. I think space bar is made of ABS but it doesn't get yellowed. Original HHK(PD-KB01/02) is a good Fujitsu rubber dome and its keys are ABS.

Ah, right, I was forgetting about the original HHKB being followed by the first Pro version. The Pro 2 was a minor update in comparison.

White HHKB are lovely.
Bought a black as it was on sale.

Maybe I should go hunt for one in Japan. The Yen is pretty cheap nowadays and that makes for a really cheap HHKB.
Saw one fore sale around $180 at amazon jp last month.

Amazon Japan has great prices, but you've got to proxy. I'm yet to find one for much under £200 shipped to Scotland.

I got the black and put a new set of white/light gray keycaps on it. Best of both worlds; it looks great.

Edit: Now I have both, the white with white/gray keycaps and black with a new set of white/gray keycaps. Based on a limited survey of people dropping by my office, more people have said they prefer the black body with white/gray keycaps; they say it looks more elegant that the all-white version. I tend to agree.
