IRC Channel

Just wondering "if" this is in the works. I enjoy idling!

Could probably create one soon. Problem is that right now at the office I can't seem to access any IRC server. The firewall blocks most ports for anything but http and FTP.

SSH Tunneling FTW.
Although that may get you in trouble!

Lol, another channel for me to idle on

I'd like a web based chat more, because IRC will scare some people away, but have no strong feelings about this.

Can always have a web based irc one too. All of the major ones seem to be based on the irc protocol nowadays anyway. If you check otd.kr - they have this little chat box on the left. You can actually connect to there by IRC too.

I think I was a little too late into the IRC game when I started getting into computers....so I'll pass on this. But if there's some kind of web chat, I'm in!

Yeah, the best compromise is a web based client without the need to type irc commands, which is also available by irc. Anyway, feel free to start an unofficial irc channel, we'll have to look into something more permanent a little later (getting what we have now in stable state is first priority).

Agreed, no rush on the chat room. Just know that having one and promoting it will avoid some of those "which board to get?" threads.

Deskthority IRC Channel

by Brian8bit
Deskthority has an IRC channel on the
Freenode network. You can connect straight to it with irc.freenode.net. If you want you can connect to various servers around the world, closer to your home locale. See the
server list on the Freenode website for specific server addresses.
There's also a large selection of standard and SSL specific ports you can connect to. It is recommended to connect via SSL ports.
If you need help with IRC, please feel free to leave questions in this thread.

If one is made, which network will you use? I use the mordor and rizon networks.

I have no idea yet, I haven't used IRC in over a decade so I don't know what's hot and what's not right now.

An IRC-Channel would be awesome. Such a webapplet which is over an irc client accessible and on the otherside easy to use with a webbrowser. would be great for both sides.

Would be pretty awesome if there was an IRC channel for this site.

If you own the domain, you might be able to just ask a mod to take it over.

Actually LaCap is a user here so maybe he did it for us

Bumped: Anyone got in touch with LaCap to sort out the channel? If not we can always go to Rizon. Or I know a quiet server @ irc.mut80r.co.uk

freenode would be nice because there is also geekhack there, anyway I tried to get in touch with LaCap but no luck, sent him a PM on 2 april, guess he didn't log in here yet.
I suggest maybe to do what NOMiS said

Have you tried messaging him on Geekhack?
Scratch that: I'm on freenode now and sent him a message but he's been idle for a while. So I'll try and get him to sort out the channel when he gets round to messaging me back.

Didn't try, great that you found him online at least
