Re: Cleaning Model M Spill - Advice on cleaning membrane?
It seems that they are too uniformly stuck together to be any liquid. Plus, I got it all apart within 6 hours of the spill, and the scale of the uniformness would suggest it was drenched in a ton of sugar, but it was dry then, and it had no smell. Here is a video to show what I'm talking about, it ...

Re: Cleaning Model M Spill - Advice on cleaning membrane?
The easy answer is to set it aside for a couple of days and see if it dries out acceptably on its own. Summer sun might help speed that up.
Taking it completely apart for a thorough cleaning is daunting, but if it is already bolt modded you have a big headstart.
If I were you, I would unscrew ...

Cleaning Model M Spill - Advice on cleaning membrane?
Hi everyone,
Earlier today I was at my desk in my office and a coworker walked by, and knocked my glass of kombucha onto my desk, and poured a substantial amount (like a sixth of the glass) into my Model M keyboard. I quickly unplugged it, drained the fluid, and then for my lunch break ran to the ...

Re: Model F XT Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
I see, I believe you are referring to this? I see you have BOM. How hard would it be to use something like this from here? Would it be the same thing just built already, so I would just have to snip the PCB, solder it all up, and then we're golden? I also notice that there is an option to add a ...

Re: Model F XT Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
So, very very bad news, but still heading towards a solution. The converter works, I am typing with my Model M using the converter as we speak! Meaning there is an issue with the board directly, not the converter or the cable. Does anyone know where I would even begin to diagnose the board? I will ...

Re: Model F XT Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
Ah that makes a lot more sense, I ordered a cable to convert PS/2 to DIN 5, I will report back when that gets here and I test it....but if your XT Soarers supports DIN5 AT you can test it using the Model M and a simple DIN5 to PS/2 adapter.

Re: Model F XT Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
I don't have a converter for the IBM Model M, It uses a PS/2 cable already, so PS/2 to USB. It doesn't require a soarers converter. You can use your "IBM Model M 1390120" your profile are refering to test the converter hardware and its cable connection at least?

Re: Model F XT Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
Alright status updates:
The cable is not the issue, it has continuity through the cables. Along with this, that connector thing isn't for the ground at all, but for PE, the ground is supplied through the cables <3. I was confused at first though, as I couldn't locate the proper cable format, this ...

Re: Model F Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
What happens if you plug everything in while the computer is off and then turn on the computer? <- just curious
Good idea, sadly still no results. This did lead me to check everything with a fresh mind though, and I was able to gather some new information that may help diagnosis.

Re: Model F Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
Why do you connect the model F to the converter after the converter is already plugged into the computer? The converter is not built for that, you should connect the USB plug to the computer when the keyboard is already attached.

Re: Model F Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
Sorry in my first response to you I got a little ahead of myself. Do what I'm saying ONLY if the issue is found to be with the cable after the continuity test. What I meant was that you can harvest the cable from say a $1 PS/2 mouse and then snip the connectors off the end of the cable, and then ...

Re: Model F Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
Yeah I believe the ground from the cable attaches to that bolt if my memory serves. The case can't act as a ground because it's plastic.
I see, when I took it apart I recall it being attached to the case with the screw, but that does make a lot more sense if it was that on the PCB.
Yeah try to ...

Re: Model F Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
The ground is that bolt in the center of the board where the shiny back plate extends to the PCB. You have a close up of it in your fifth pic. Make sure that's tightened like a mug.
Forgive my ignorance if what I am doing is wrong, I went off of both assumptions with little progress. I first just ...

Re: Model F Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
Do you attach ground here? If so, then that would have to be an issue with ground on the internal XT cable itself or the converters ground. What do you think?Sounds like a typical ground issue

Model F XT Spewing Junk on hid_listen using Soarer's Converter
Hello! I created a thread two days ago talking about the badge on my Model F I was restoring. I have finished the restore since then, but have ran into some issues. I have a Soarer's Converter made by "orihalcon" on eBay. I have bought from him the past, never had a bad experience (nor do I believe ...

Re: Advice on restoring/diagnosing the issue with a Model F XT Badge
Here is a better look, it is definitely not a sticker. I have reached out to case-badges and have not heard a response yet, but it is the weekend so they are probably off. When I get some stuff back, I will update.

Re: Advice on restoring/diagnosing the issue with a Model F XT Badge
Aight, so goo gone did not work, so I am going to look into buying 10 of those custom badges, and if they look good, I will sell the other 9. If it really works out and more than 10 want em, I will consider doing a group buy. Thanks for y'all's help. For reference if anyone else reads this thread ...

Re: Advice on restoring/diagnosing the issue with a Model F XT Badge
I thought the same, I tried picking at it to no avail, I am going to try that though when I get the chance. The yellow stuff on the badge might be some adhesive from the protective plastic layer that was present when the keyboard was new. Maybe try some Goo Gone to remove it?

Hm, tough break. I think I can piece together some sort of group buy based on this and the link I sent above. I will do some proper measurements with a caliper later.

Advice on restoring/diagnosing the issue with a Model F XT Badge
I recently bought a Model F XT off of eBay with the intention of restoring it. It is in proper working shape and all the components are there, it just needs some loving. As I was taking it apart I took a nice look at the badge and realized it looked, weird, almost corroded. I own a Model M with a ...

Re: Converting a PC Keyboard to a Terminal Keyboard using Soarer?
What you're referring to as a "hub" is an "A-B switch".
Unfortunately, Soarer's firmware is closed source and the author has effectively disappeared without a trace some years ago. It would be ok to convert from PS/2 (Set 2) to USB HID but won't cover USB HID to Set 3 (Terminal), I'm not sure ...

Converting a PC Keyboard to a Terminal Keyboard using Soarer?
Ok, so I have a conundrum. I have a nice IBM Model M keyboard, early 1390120, I love this keyboard and I paid good money for it. I want to include an actual terminal to my build so I can achieve levels of hipster first thought impossible, but to do this, I need to connect the terminal to an actual ...
