You would need something like the Arduino Leonardo. The Leonardo will connect directly with usb and act as key inputs almost natively.

He reckons its a fairly cheap way to get plastic parts "cloned" into more solid metals. It may be around the £100 mark for a single keyboard, but the quality should be fantastic

The 3000 case has unused screwmounts which can be used after punching through the sealed holes on the bottom half. That should add a good bit of rigidity. I used a 3.5mm drill to open the mounts and 3x25 wood screws to fasten.

The buttons took me a few days to get used to, but they work fine once you are used to the distance.

Take a look at the KENSINGTON Orbit Optical Trackball. I used one of these for 3-4 months when I was doing a lot of video editing and I wanted to avoid wrist strain.

It was very nice to hold and feels very much like a normal mouse.
