I'm wondering how trivial it would be to mod my Filco to use a detachable cable. Theoretically it shouldn't be too hard, I just want to get some input and maybe learn of any gotchas before hurting my baby. I do have a spare cable with that pcb connector, but if I could find one specifically for this purpose, I'd prefer not to cannibalize my Filco cable. Does anyone know what to search for to try to find that connector? Once I find one (or cannibalize mine), as far as I know, I can just cut that cable, and a cable with female mini-b on one end, and connect them together. And then I guess I'd just have to widen the opening to fit the female connector. Does anyone see any issue with this plan?

I'm pretty sure thats how Ceesa did his Nopoo mini detachable cable mod here (been a while since I watched that, I might be wrong...). I think the only thing I'd be careful of is wiring the female USB connector the right way around.
edit - USB pinout diagram should help.

finally got a chance to watch that. Looks exactly like what I was going to do. I just need to get ahold of a spare cable, so I can start with the non-destructive steps to see if I want to go through with it.

Connector http://se.mouser.com/Search/ProductDeta ... 87369-0500
Terminals http://se.mouser.com/Search/ProductDeta ... 50212-8000
Crimping Tools cost an arm and a leg, but I guess a few terminals can be squeezed by hand... I have some of those parts above, I just haven't tested them yet.

is that the exact connector you need for a Filco cable? I'm looking for some of those, but on that site shipping is quite expensive for only a couple of connectors, so I'm looking at other sites but it's hard to find something exactly the same as that one.
