It might actually be quiet enough for an office especially since I put thicker PBT keycaps on it vs the stock thin ABS ones, but the only tester I have available is my wife who haaaaates keyboard sounds.
I might think about the o-rings, though that would be time consuming since I'd have to ...

Will Foam fit in a Packard Bell 5131C?
I have one of these and would potentially like to use it in an office environment, does anyone know if foam will fit on the inside of the metal backplate for sound dampening? I'm not sure how much space is in there between the backplate and PCB, and im not sure how to find out since that seems ...

Re: Alps Appreciation
I've been using the Dell with pine whites for a week now and I love it so much I've even stopped rotating through my keyboards like I normally do (though I'll probably go back to that soon since I like the variety.) I think I like this even more than my Model M.

Re: Vintage Increases Value?
The tactile feel on the 5130 is way stronger than on the 5100c.
And just to be clear, the 5100c isn't crap as far as rubber domes go. There's way worse. The 5130 is just better though. To the point that if you check the workshop forum I have a 5130 I bought for spares and transplanted the domes ...

Re: Alps Appreciation
Just got this in the mail today! Dell AT101W that was restored by the seller. They top-swapped in near-new pine white Alps for the bamboo blacks, and replaced most of the keycaps with Tai-Hao ABS doubleshots. Its my first Alps board and I freaking love it! One of these days I'll get a blue Alps ...

Re: Why are you into keyboards?
Lots of different reasons, I'm finding. Last spring I only had one keyboard (Corsair K68 with MX Reds) and it had been my first mechanical keyboard since the Model F with my Dad's 5150 almost 30 years ago. Now I have 5, and will have 6 by next week as I have one in transit. That also doesn't include ...

Re: BTC 5140 ISO model
They are pretty darn great, I have a Packard Bell 5131C in my rotation that I put some PBT doubleshots on (well, at least the ones that fit since the stabs are incompatible with cherry.)

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
This is more of an "identify the switch" thing, but does anyone know which switches the ALPS MCL-101 keyboard comes with? Its hard to find info on it, I think it might come with blacks but I'm not really sure? I'm trying to figure out if its worth paying $175 for a NOS one if it does come with ...

Re: Dell Quietkey (NMB) vs. IBM KB-7953
Honestly, I'd look into the BTC dome-with-sliders too, like the BTC 51 series. The Packard Bell 5131C is a great example, I got one recently myself and love it. Very snappy and tactile, not mushy at all.

Re: Alps Appreciation
This seems like a good thread to ask in. If I had a chance to get a new-in-box Acer 6011 with blue Alps for $150 + shipping, is that a good deal? I have no idea, really. I really want a blue Alps board but that's also a lot of money.

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!
The keyboards might've been the best thing about the 90s Packard Bells lol. We actually never had one, we bought several Compaq Presarios back in the day. I looked at finding one of those old keyboards for nostalgia since they have the also good NMB dome with slider, but all the cheap ones were in ...

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!
The Packard Bell 5131C came in today! I cleaned it up & put the PBT keycaps on it. I kinda wish I could put the full set on, but the board isn't compatible with Cherry stabs, so no luck there. It still looks good IMO, but the laser or printed legends on the stock caps I had to use look really weak ...

Hi, everyone! I just joined so I figure what better way to start out than to post my current keyboards?
