Re: Stuff you just bought
Hey, I'm so sorry, i know it's a long shot - do you still have this keyboard? I've bought a NOS keyboard minus case that has similar codes to yours, but the layout is markedly different. I can't find anything about it though, and I'm trying to figure out if it has SKCL or SKCC, if you found ...

Re: HHKB's you've tried
Yep, I've had many boards reyellow over time (which is why, when I've got a board that's not yellowed, I take preventative measures, ie the UV protectant spray). Usually, it's always to a more subtle degree than the original yellowing, but it does revert.

Re: keyboard selection help
I know I cannot completely avoid some Chinese parts inside a product. But I want a keyboard on which it is written ''Made in...'' ... somewhere else than China. And I thought Topre switches are made in Japan, similar to MX switches being made in Germany. Is that not the case?

As an fyi, you can buy some UV protectant for plastics to ensure the white/ivory plastics maintain their original color and don't yellow over time.

If you could make an IBM 4704 F107 case (and if you or another could make a PCB and plate), you'd be filling a demand niche for the people who bought into the F77/F62 reproductions.

Re: Mu's New HHKB
I know topre wobbles, I had many topre boards in last 15 years.
Thing is the slider of Type-s is different - it has small indent under it, so rubber dome goes deeper, to feel like regular one.
Once you remove rings, you create a gap between dome and slider, that is why all caps would then be lose ...

Re: Mu's New HHKB
I've never tried this myself so am unsure of what the results would be, but have you tried removing the type-s silencing rings?
I can't imagine there's any real wobble on the sliders as the rings are extremely thin
I was thinking doing it. I've read here and there that when you do that, they ...

Very good, Mu. :P Nah, I understand.
I know a lot of people who dislike sphericals because of their feel not being as smooth to use as cylindricals.
Which I can see. Cylindricals have those dipped edges in the front and back of the cap. Sphericals are raised on all sides, which can make ...

Re: Mu's New HHKB
HiPro is like SA (example: Round 5) but not even quite that good. I’d rate them 3/10 for feel but 8/10 for looks. (Deduct points for those usual boring beige ones, though.) Quite imbalanced!
MT3 is a bit nicer than both of them, looks wise. For me, it’s a bit better feeling, too, as it screams ...

Or rather not?
You happen to miss my post up there? They're not very close, no.

Do you have any MG sets? If yes, do you ...

Re: Topre 55g first impressions from an alps user
I have a Topre RF mouse, but I waited for one to go for a fairly reduced price on eBay.
I got it mostly to have a silent mouse, which it fits that role well for. I'd not recommend it for any other purpose over other comprable mice, especially at its price.

Re: Mu's New HHKB
I thought that MT3 profile caps are similar to Hi-Pro.
I wish I could grab some Hi-Pro for hhkb.
DId you see that new Hipro caps sets on kbdfans? They are at interest check stage, but they look lovely!

You haven’t heard it because it isn’t true. They don’t break in. They get a bit stiffer with age. ;)
See, that's the thing. I don't know what contributes to that exactly, but I have two Topre keyboards from 1985, one NOS, one subject to the Sahara, and both of the domes actually feel just fine ...

Re: New Model M vs Model F Repro
Here's my uneducated opinion on the subject not having the whole story just yet:
I just want to say that the marketing pushed the reproductions as the "original" model F keyboards, when that is not what they are.
They are specifically recreations of the 4704 banking terminal keyboards, but I ...

Yeah, the Topre market has gone absolutely bonkers these days. It's hard to even find anything under the radar now.
Good luck though. Yahoo Japan or Mercari might be a good place to look.

Thank you! The JustSystems projects were one of my first with Topre and even back in 2017, cost me a ton, and I tried to get everything as economically as possible. Buying a second 108UW in 2021 for this Nissho build was crazy, but hey at least I got 30th anniversary cups, right? :?

Re: Post your keyboard/keycaps!
What is that Nissho board?
So, that Nissho keyboard is actually a project of mine after seeing how similar the 108UW HiPro and the Nissho's keycaps are.
A friend of mine had a spare Nissho case, and I wanted to give the project a shot.
I wanted to essentially swap the 108UW into the Nissho ...

I am looking for some recommendations.
I like the Model F's switch feel, and I like the nostalgia of it. Is there another vintage board that has a similar vibe to the Model F, minus the insanely loud ping?

[WTB or WTTF] Juki Celavi FK-212 Chassis No Caps
So, several Juki Celavi showed up on Yahoo Auctions around a year back.
I'm interested in buying the spare parts of an FK-212 which had shown up then. If anyone here purchased that one and is using the caps, I'd be willing to buy the barebones chassis off of you.

Re: IBM and the Ship of Theseus

Oh yes, this one, the one that reminded me of the F77.
Lovely little thing. Great find here. Have fun in putting it to use after conversion! The integrated molded plastic plate is very interesting on this board.
