bpiphany has kindly donated some controllers he baked in his new oven to deskthority. :geek:

Check 'em out:

The Pegasus Hoof, the Frosty Flake, the Black Petal and the Kitten Paw.

Have you researched these and do you want one? Please reply below with the following:
1) Name the controller you want;
2) Describe the project you want to use it for.

If multiple people want the same controller, the best project wins as selected by the jury (hi!).

Do they work with Duckies? Specifically a Shine 3 TKL? I might cook up a best-of-both-worlds programmable + lights scenario if I can figure it out, if so.

No. Each controller is custom-made to replace a specific keyboard's controller. See the Replacement controllers thread in the Marketplace forum.

Kitten Paw: Filco Majestouch 105
Pegasus Hoof: Filco Majestouch TKL
Frosty Flake: CM Storm QuickFire Rapid
Black Petal: Rosewill

If no one else wants it (which I'll doubt ;)) I'd take the Frosty Flake for my QFR.
I don't know if you could really call it a "project" but I have modified it quite a bit already (modded the MX Reds to MX Blues with 55g springs and stickers, put on some nice Cherry Dye-Subs).
I still have to repaint the case to get rid of the brandings and stuff, so there is still something to do with it.

I'm interested in the kitten paw, to find out if it would remedy my filco intermittently locking on bootup :/

I'm interested in the Black Petal. While I don't have a keyboard yet, I will be getting a Rosewill RK9000 soon which is a bit easier to carry to school (and people will like it better than buckling springs). Being able to use custom firmware to setup some of the odd macros I do with Photoshop\Illustrator for school is far more useful than auto hot key or any other similar programs, those need to be installed and loaded on any computer I use.

I'm going to be changing some switches on my board soon as well so would be good to swap out the controller at the same time.
I've never done any programming so it would be fun to learn some new stuff :)

1) Frosty Flake
2) Spread the joy of keyboards and programability to the world by first convincing a friend with a QF Rapid of its greatness.

I'd be interested in Black Petal. I currently remap my keys with xmodmap so that they match the keycaps I put on them. It'd also make it easier to experiment with other layouts I've been meaning to try out (like the workman). I don't have anything really cool planned though.

Simply mentioning xmodmap is awesome enough. Now say you want to move on to xkb as well ;)

I believe Soarer's controller wouldn't work on these though, and I know it's your favourite. They all have an AVR ATMEGA32U2 whereas Soarer's firmware currently requires an ATMEGA32U4 or better (see http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/soar ... t6767.html ).

I can understand the 'U2 range was chosen for its tiny size, so either you have to wait until Soarer adds support (if he ever gets around to v2: http://deskthority.net/post136857.html#p136857 ) or tweak and build any other firmware into submission.

Indeed. I'm fine with the Shine 3 as it is really, what with all the fancy stuff driving the lights. I'll concentrate on customs, where I choose the chip. Speaking of which: I've a half wired up 128 key Tipro waiting on getting finished.

1) Pegasus Hoof
2) A rebuild of a Filco Majestouch TKL in a aluminium chassis, below is a list of things i will do:
- change keycaps from original black ISO UK to white sideprinted ISO Swedish layout
- change all blue switches to mx black
- re-paint the key-plate from black to white
- put switchstickers on switches
- change springs to 65g
- lubricate the switches
- o-ring dampening the switches
- change LEDs to match my desktop
- program controller with multiple layers for media keys, Numpad replacement, macros for html codes (posting pics/urls etc), macro for switching sound output, to start with =)
- later on i will build a custom cable and put a female mini-usb directly in to the chassis of the keyboard

Reason for all this? Simply because i love to build and fix things. The programming of the controller is a new territory for me and I am very excited to get in to it and learn new things on the way. 50% of the parts are already at home and the rest is in progress to be ordered. A buildlog is a guarantee and will be written in both english and swedish.

With the Pegasus Hoof, I will turn my Filco TKL in a switchable multi-layer keyboard to get an "hardwired" dvorak keyboard (by reversing the keymapping to the default azerty layout of the OS) that should work on any (azerty-be) computer without the need to install an intl-dvorak layout on the computer. This is kind of weird to enter your password on the azerty layout and once your computer has started to use the dvorak layout T_T

I actually used xkb for a while but it didn't work on my laptop for whatever reason so now I use xmodmap on both my computers for consistency.

Checked the mail this evening.

Next month I'll let you know how it goes. The car deciding it needs a new tie rod restricts the distance we can go.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't used the controller for any of the cool stuff it can do yet
BUT since I installed it a week ago my keyboard hasn't randomly hung on startup unlike before where ~1 in 3 it would!
I'm really grateful for the freebie as I wasn't sure if I had a USB conflict/fault or not - it was a duff controller in the filco.
I haven't split that many beers on it either :/

Got the RK9000 and the Black Petal installed. I have a feeling I may be missing the boot loader. Just threw it in and connected it like this but I'll try reloading the firmware, unless this is totally normal of course.

Image

Edit: put the Easy AVR firmware on it and all works well except my bnnn key. I have a feeling that's just firmware related as if I press and hold b I get bnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Only key that does it and doesn't happen on stock controller.
