Could you add a favicon? I'd love to add this site to the bookmarks bar but I like to make mine to just the favicon.

It's only 16×16 and fuzzy, needs redoing in Inkscape properly but it's adequate for now — I drew it by hand.

Then of course there's <link rel="apple-touch-icon" …> …

I added 64x64/32x32/16x16 I don't know if it works on IE though. Can someone check?

Sorry I wanted to push some updates today, but my new CNC arrived and got distracted :D

I'll also work on the apple icons

yes, custom built removing 90% of wordpress fuzz.

PS: favicon seems to work on IE10 and up

the main rule is: don't try to fight it, embrace it. You have to do things the way it wants them... but you can add a filter for any function and override any default behavior.

How do we handle the SP mega group buys, e.g. Round 5? For example, I got these two by themselves from another forum member (thinking they were the correct white on black, not stupid white on grey) — they're from an earlier round:
1280px-Signature_Plastics_novelty_doubleshot.jpg
1280px-Signature_Plastics_novelty_doubleshot.jpg (101.31 KiB) Viewed 6189 times
These group buys have stupid amounts of keycaps that won't go in a single photo, or even several photos.

Also, especially where I've got limited clear background space, does a photo need to show every keycap from a set? Here are some photos of the last Tai-Hao group buy:

http://deskthority.net/wiki/Tai-Hao_201 ... group_buys

All the red ones are unused, and some of the green ones are on a keyboard already.

BTW more pix of keycaps here: http://deskthority.net/wiki/Double-shot_molding

I might add another one of a small selection of the caps on my NEC PC-8201A as they're the nice flat profile DSA-like Alps caps, though ideally someone would post those from their Merlin Tonto/One Per Desk or TRS-80 Model 100 as those are far more striking than my beige ones and we have beige ones up already.

It's not an easy database to handle. The "reference" material comes from the original boards. It's an easy way to understand where a group buy comes from. Often people ask what "dolch replica" means, so you can redirect them to the "reference" material.

Then, if someone ran a GB that should be handled separately under "full sets". If you have multiple rounds, you can add a new entry if the round 2 is not the same as round 1, otherwise you may just add a note to the first one (like I did for the VIM key).
Daniel Beardsmore wrote: How do we handle the SP mega group buys, e.g. Round 5?
yeah that's a similar dilemma I had. I believe that the best is to split the GB semantically based on the "main sets" (the ones presented to form a full keyboard). For example round 5 could be split into:

Round 5: Honeywell
Round 5: Black
Round 5: Red
Round 5: Graphite
Round 5: Round 4 repair kit

Another possibility is to add sub-categories, so you could have a "Round 5" parent and infinite child kits. This would be already possible with the current db structure but requires some work in the front-end.

Generally speaking, I'm trying to stay grounded, it's impossible to document each and every keycap in each and every group buy (not to mention reference material).

My original intention (that might change of course) is to have an overview starting from the present day going backward. Once you add a keycap that is inspired by some old keyboard you also add the reference material. When you have many different kind of info you better understand what the direction of the project should be.

Oh gosh I wrote a wall of text... I've been Beardsmorized! :D

Maybe figure some way to have keycaps applied to the site. Also to make a text list of the keycaps that can hold like 100 different sets, for easy CTRL+Fing

From the OP:
matt3o wrote: some of you may already know that I'm working on http://keypuller.com

The planned new features are:
- more lists, tables, search, filters (when we have more data)
- "like this", very important to make charts :)
- better RSS feeds
- documentation section
- and of course a submission form to contribute to the DB
- admins/mods to help review user's submissions
- featured galleries

I'm working on the submission form right now, in the meantime if you want to help I'm looking for good resolution photos for the keycaps. If you have photos please post them here and I will add them. Thanks!

The form should be ready in a couple of days, but If you want to add a new set or novelty key, just post it here (or send me a PM).
So yeah, I think he knows!

I'm currently working on that (sorry going a bit slow due to CNC :P). It is taking more time than expected, unfortunately every time you need user inserted data you have to apply a lot of filters.

Like I said, in the meantime you can use this post to send your submission if you want. I wanted to also add (not now) a sort of keycaps karma to incentive user submission (the more you submit the more points you get). It's something that I usually don't like, but it might help (especially for pictures).

@webwit, some insights about the wingnut for example?

gioele wrote: A feature request: can we have a field where one can specify the font used for the legends?
the font is not currently supported, but it wouldn't be a problem.

I want to (try to) find a compromise between time needed to insert a set and completeness of information. The more fields the more time per set needed.

Couldn't it be made an incremental system? So that one start from a simple record with an image and some information, then other people fill in the missing pieces of information. I volunteer for the fonts, for example.

yeah currently only the title and the poster image are required actually. but you need a hell of a community to do what you are suggesting. Also you need security systems to prevent the usual jerk from logging in and messing with your data.

anyway a solution might be to nominee some trusted mods/admins that can work on additional info that common subscribers didn't fill.

the description is the most daunting for submitters so far, but it is also the most important field imho.

For first I want to make you some compliments as a wp designer, the site is simple and clean, yet complete and very cool.

The only thing I'd improve for now is the Keycaps Data table, I think all the black text is causing a bit of, I can't find the words neither in English nor in Italian, maybe it's "un po' troppo pieno" but still I don't know if you can understand me :D
I have tried #9B978D and also #F23607 but they look bad in there; I'd try with #54514A, it looks better to me.

Also I want to thank you for the big work you are doing for the keyboard community, the keyboard enthusiasts and also for newbies like me; I think it is great to have such an archivee.

For the open modifications part it would be cool to have people submitting infos and modifications as they'd like, with a good anti-spam system and a dozen of trusted people as moderators that approve the modifications and the submissions...
