Seal Woodworking Tigerwood Wrist Rest

Not sure I’ll be a long term user of a wrist rest, but got one in the mail today (Seal Woodworking via Massdrop). It does provide a little bit of stress relief, but a lot of times I just hover above it and then rest on it until the next dumb idea rattling around in my head spills out across the keyboard. But one thing I am sure of…this is a great looking and smelling piece of Tigerwood (even though it doesn’t exactly pop out sitting atop the wood from my keyboard tray). I love the matte oil finish.

It seems to be about 1/4 inch wider than than my HHKB on each side and the peak height of the rest is about 1/8th inch taller than the front “chin” of the HHKB (doesn't interfere with pressing spacebar down). The front edge of the rest is about 3/16 inch tall. The bottom has two large rubber grip pads.

At about $50, you have to be okay with treating yourself. The feel is comfortable, but only a few weeks of time will tell if I enjoy plopping my wrists here.

Those HHKB caps had better be hand dyed, or Topre has hired Unicomp's quality control department…

The wrist rest looks okay. I'm quite uninformed about them, because my typing style is quite incompatible with something sat in front of the board. My thumbs drift around on that vertical surface, ready to pounce on the spacebar and bottom row. Besides, I type with hands hovering. Putting them down on the board when between words isn't something I need to avoid. They pull away by themselves.

Yes, the keys were my first dying adventure. I used iDye Poly and I think I may have had a chemical reaction with the copper bottomed pan I used or uneven heat from my downstairs induction heating stove. I'm going to give it another try soon (waiting for my PBT spacebar) with a different pan and stove.

The "at whatever cost" part rings more true than the "gifted for something..." part.
