Yeah good review, with all the strangeness (layout and crazy keycap profile) it's still a great keyboard. Your new layout is good but your inserts are ugly. The hefty shipping was worth it to me in this case.
I always found "pingmaster" a bit too positive sounding, someone with no knowledge might think it's something desirable to have.

I agree, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if Alps made more switches than the other manufacturers put together (with the exception of Micro Switch). Frankly I think they thought it was quiet, though. I mean, think of how LOUD keyboards were at the time!

I spy a Model F XT. Is that on the reviewing list?

I love your reviews Chyros... Always thorough with brevity (and a touch of comedy). I picked up one of these from the Blaise downsizing, and used Hasu's 4704 converter to try it out. I had to flash the teensy a bit to make it truly usable, but it gave me the chance to try it out, and thought I would post my method if anyone else wants to experiment with it easily (no soldering). Fun little board (Japenese variety as well).
EDIT: I should add. The little piezo speaker works with the converter as well. It is LOUD, so be sure and turn down with the volume wheel at the back before using

Yes, I want to try mine out, so any tips can be useful for someone like me with no experience modifying board internals.lot_lizard wrote: I love your reviews Chyros...
