I'd say there's a very good chance if you drive a Japanese make that some of the pressed metal components would be made by Topre. It'd actually be interesting to know how many companies are involved with a single car -- companies you'd probably never even know about unless you were bothered to dig into it. Just last year I had a notice from Nissan informing me that my car has an airbag made by 'Takata' that needs to be replaced as part of a huge recall.

Oh yeah I stumble across such companies quite frequently. As a freelance IT consultant, these mid-sized automotive supplier companies are very common customers here in Germany. I've been working for a company that makes scales & cashier solutions for supermarkets and smaller shops. Turned out they also make the sensors that are built into car seats that decide whether the seat is occupied and trigger the seatbelt warning.

And my last car was a German brand but STILL had a Misubishi turbocharger built in ...

Well I can live with Japanese parts ;)

My oldest car is now 21 years and the youngest 16, and I never had any recall. Seems new cars are not worth their money, so I better stick to 1990s cars designed in the 1980s, like my keyboards ...
:ugeek:

BTW: Cherry also made switches for the automobile industry and later other parts, like plastic bodywork etc.
It is only natural to spread into other fields and not exclusively stick to one product.

My first car was a 1976 Holden Torana LX and it was already ~30 years old when I got it (and 10 years older than me). It never had any recalls either but I would take my current cars for safety any day of the week recall or not :D

Your airbag will fail when you don't see that tree, because of the too thick window frame and hit it, because your car is too wide!

Haha yeah you know you're right -- A pillars in modern cars are way too chunky.
