I got an f122 case with a crack as well as a chunk missing (on which was one of the tabs for holding the bottom case)
At first I tried using jb weld but because it's a high stress area it didn't hold up when i tried to assemble it.
On my second attempt I melted wire mesh into it then filled in the gap with jb weld. I also melted in a stainless steel wire to replace the missing tab. So far it is holding up

Next I want to paint it but I don't paint much so I would love to get your guys' advice. Do I need to fully remove the original paint before painting (extremely tedious the way I'm doing it)? Would it be sufficient to just sand the old paint a bit? If you have painted an f122 case without removing the old paint I would love to see some photos

I ended up sanding until it was flat but I didn't bother getting the original paint off entirely, was no evidence of it after painting

But the crack was surprisingly visible after painting

The repair was pretty sloppy too

But it works perfectly
