Also, why aren't theese topics being deleted alltogether?

One word: pagerank. He'll be paid (a pittance) for juicing the SEO of those sites he links, when he comes back to edit his posts, as he always does. It's nothing personal, just making search engines slightly worse, while we're supposed not to notice.Lynx_Carpathica wrote: 11 Jan 2022, 12:00 why does he keep doing this? No mods. No care from the new owner. When DT does 404 someday, maybe soon, come find me on Nexthority, if it's still running. I always go by the same handle.

But I find you here.Muirium wrote: 11 Jan 2022, 13:15Come find me on Nexthority, if it's still running. I always go by the same handle.

No offense to Redmaus and his work, but there are only 20 posts there. Also, while I'd probably get used to it, both the forum and wiki software Redmaus is using (forum's nodebb, I think, and the wiki's wiki.js) is significantly different from what's here (forum's phpBB and the wiki is MediaWiki).

Indeed. I’d only jump ship when this one sinks. Which it may well, given the pathetic state of no moderators and zero interest by the new owner.
If DT goes dark, I’m guessing Nexthority suddenly livens up. Or we all scatter to the winds…

We need to make sure that in case this does happen and DT goes 404, we have some sort of backup for the wiki if there isn't one already.Muirium wrote: 11 Jan 2022, 13:15 No mods. I'm no expert on how to do that, besides just the humble (and likely highly incomplete) Wayback Machine:

Well, whoever does Nextority, I hope he does not delte _my_ spam from there.
I stole a few topics from here, so why not bring them over?

I'm not bothering to go back to the DT sale thread. Is the Wiki now the new owner's intellectual property or the folks that wrote stuff in the wiki or both? It's a grand thing to back up the Wiki, but if you can't post it elsewhere, what's the point?
I probably use the forum 70% of the time and Wiki 30% of the time. That means I'd be more unhappy if the forum goes away.

The wiki is all Creative Commons licensed, surely? Like Wikipedia is.
Just copy it. If someone’s bothered to come after it, post DT’s demise, they care more than they show right now!
Incidentally: Nexthority’s rather classy header image is one I shot myself back in Round 5’s heyday. No one asked my permission. I chuckled when I saw it! And that’s about it. It looks good there.

Redmaus needs a higher res version. The pixilation is pretty bad at 4K.Muirium wrote: 13 Jan 2022, 00:00 Incidentally: Nexthority’s rather classy header image is one I shot myself back in Round 5’s heyday. No one asked my permission. I believe the Creative Commons license is for the text on Media Wiki's ... Wiki, because they acknowledge that their community put it together. "Text is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License; additional terms may apply. See Terms of Use for details." There's no such disclaimer on the Deskthority Wiki. There isn't any text at all. That doesn't necessarily mean that the website owner has no rights nor is giving anyone rights.
I'm not a lawyer, though. Nor am I a lock picker. That means that I'm not the Lock Picking Lawyer, which is disappointing.

Images (and other files) are licensed, individually for each image. That's because some images are not original works.Muirium wrote: 13 Jan 2022, 00:00 The wiki is all Creative Commons licensed, surely? Like Wikipedia is.
Some images that are not CC are "licensed to Deskthority" though. Therefore, can not be copied.
The text does not carry any copyright info. However, webwit once stated this back in 2011:
So, that's it. Webwit has stated that keyboardjoy does not own copyright to the content of the Wiki.webwit wrote: 21 Jul 2011, 17:38 So let's say you contribute lots to the wiki, and then some crazy Japanese millionaire comes to us and offers 1M EUR for the deskthority wiki. Just to close it and start a porn wiki instead. We wouldn't be able to resist and what would happen? Hmmm. Well he would be buying the title, not the content. Admin would probably share the proceedings. I'd probably need to get rid of some of them to increase my cut. Ownership is sketchy so far because we didn't care yet. Whatever infighting though, in this scenario the data is still free. So the worst that can happen is that the deskthority title is lost, and the content is continued elsewhere with the same tech.
I would say that it is in the public domain.

The wiki is still open source, wiki and user content remains yours and was not part of the sale.

Until just a few days ago, DT was looking abandoned, overgrown with spam. People were rightly fearing the forum was a gonner. That’s what all this talk is about.
The OP spam is gone at last, so reading these threads for the first time now must be confusing.

We are about to launch as well, and we will need contributors for the wiki. I would also recommend joining our Discord server.
